Retail Garden Manager

Full-time

Job Description

Lead day-to-day operations at Blooming Junction's garden center, overseeing staff, merchandising, inventory, and customer experience. A leadership role for an experienced retail or garden center manager.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations and activities of the retail garden center
  • Ensure inventory levels are appropriate and stock levels are adequate
  • Monitor revenue margins, operating expenses, and budgets as required by owner
  • Hire, develop, maintain, and supervise a seasonally right-sized team of professional employees
  • Walk the entire store a minimum of a couple times a day, noting areas for cleanup and re-organization
  • Merchandise store; create inspiring displays promoting sales; instruct others as their skills allow
  • Schedule staff
  • Systematize training of sales staff, emphasizing presence in sales yard selling and cleaning, maintaining and straightening
  • Nurture customer relations; enhance customer engagement and service
  • Develop and implement employee evaluations
  • Oversight of Farm operations depending on qualifications and experience
Compensation
  • Year-round salaried position; salary based on experience

Qualifications / Skills
  • Experience with POS systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Analytical ability for effective purchasing
  • Management training
  • Farm background is helpful
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Prior experience as a manager in a retail garden center business
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial budgets
  • Scheduling and managing an effective sales team
  • Talent for organizing products in appealing displays for sale
  • Computer and computer program proficiency (particularly POS and Excel)
  • Associate or Bachelor degree in business, finance, or horticulture
  • Bilingual: English / Spanish

Retail Garden Center Sales

Job Description

Join our sales team and share your passion for plants with our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with their needs and help them make choices to solve problems and select plants for their projects
  • Clean and maintain plants in optimal condition and keep the sales area clean and attractive
  • Stock the store in an organized and categorically rational system for ease of customers
  • Build displays
  • Clean public areas on a rotating basis
  • Water and fertilize plants
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Thorough knowledge of plants, especially hardy perennials
  • Houseplant or foliage plant knowledge and expertise
  • A creative eye combined with plant knowledge for suggestive (combinations) merchandising
  • Experience and knowledge of pests and diseases and control measures (applicator’s license a plus)
  • Purchasing experience
