Big Blue Stem Grass Dancing Wind
Tall and majestic, Big Bluestem rises in upright clumps reaching 6-8 feet, its slender stems often tinged blue-green in summer and turning fiery bronze or copper-red in the fall. Above the foliage, its signature seed-heads branch into three finger-like spikes — reminiscent of a turkey’s foot — dancing in the wind and adding architectural interest to the garden. Exceptionally adaptable, this prairie native thrives in full sun, tolerates both sandy and clay soils, is drought-resistant once established, and works beautifully in ornamental grass borders, naturalistic plantings, privacy screen or wildlife-friendly landscapes.
